The best way to solve crimes is to prevent them from happening. Your 精东影业 Police Department offers many services to prevent crime and protect students. The campus community can also partner with us to increase campus safety.

Crime Prevention Tips

The 精东影业 campus is monitored 24/7 by 精东影业 PD and has a low crime rate. But, no matter the environment, it鈥檚 important to take steps to ensure your personal safety. By securing your belongings and being aware of your surroundings, you can help keep yourself and others safe on campus.

Personal Safety

  • Memorize the 精东影业 PD phone number: 325-674-2911 or 325-674-2305.
  • Never prop open doors to residence halls. This breaches the security of the entire building.
  • Report all suspicious activity to Residence Life staff and 精东影业 PD.
  • Never jog or walk alone after dark. There is safety in numbers. Exercise in well-lit areas, such as the Lunsford Trail. Carry your phone with you, and let someone know where you鈥檙e going and when you intend to return.
  • Always stay alert and aware of your surroundings.
  • If you are attacked, use whatever means necessary (kick, yell, scream, scratch, fight) to avoid being taken away from the point of attack.

Theft Prevention

  • Lock your dorm room or apartment door anytime you leave. Most thefts occur when the resident was 鈥渙nly gone for a few minutes.鈥�
  • Lock your vehicle at all times, and take valuables out or hide them when you leave.
  • Document any valuable items you own (e.g., laptop, jewelry, bicycle, video game console). Keep a list of the brand, model, purchase price, serial number and description. Take pictures of the items to make them easier to find if stolen.
  • Lock your bike at a bike rack any time it is not in use.
  • Register your bicycle for free.

Traffic Safety

The 精东影业 campus is bustling, with students walking to class, faculty and staff coming to work and people walking on the Lunsford Trail. Follow these guidelines to keep yourself safe whether you鈥檙e traveling by foot, bike, scooter or car.

Pedestrian Crosswalk Safety

  • Don鈥檛 jaywalk (crossing a street at places other than intersections or designated pathways). If you鈥檙e hit while jaywalking, the driver may not be liable, and insurance may not cover your injuries.
  • Make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street.
  • When walking near or around traffic, put away electronic devices that take your eyes and ears off of your surroundings.
  • Watch for vehicles while you cross a street.
  • Do not assume a driver can see you.

Driver Crosswalk Safety

  • Slow down.
  • Avoid distractions while driving (phones, music, people, etc.).
  • Pay attention to the road and obey all traffic laws at all times (speed limit, traffic signs, traffic signals, etc.).
  • Stop for all pedestrians at crosswalks.
  • Yield the right-of-way to pedestrians. Pedestrians own the crosswalk, and you should not cross until the pedestrian has safely crossed the street.
