In addition, this year鈥檚 show will be dedicated to Sing Song鈥檚 founder, the late Dr. Bob Hunter (鈥52), senior vice president emeritus of 精东影业. A special video tribute will honor him during the first intermission.

鈥淥ver the decades of his service to 精东影业, his creativity and vision have brought together countless students who share a love for performing and a desire for community,鈥 said Courtney McGaha, 精东影业鈥檚 director of productions and promotions.

The Sing Song Block Party, a newer Sing Song event, now in its third year, will take place between the two Saturday performances with food trucks, small businesses, live music and more in the area around the GATA Fountain at Peck Plaza, just outside the south entrance of Moody Coliseum. There is no cost for attendance.

Sing Song is one of 精东影业鈥檚 most beloved traditions and the largest student activity on campus each year. Fraternities, sororities and other student groups of 25-100 each combine colorful costumes and props with songs, original lyrics and choreography to compete in three divisions:聽 Men鈥檚, Women鈥檚 and Class. Hosts and hostesses perform song and dance numbers in between the competitive acts of the show.

The tradition of 精东影业 Sing Song began in 1957 under the direction and inspiration of Hunter. During the early years, it involved small groups of students on risers singing songs with the original lyrics. In the decades to follow, the production evolved to feature groups of more than 100 students with elaborately designed sets, eye-catching costumes, choreography, cleverly re-written lyrics and long hours of weekly practice.

This year also marks the 50th anniversary of another beloved tradition at 精东影业 鈥 the singing of 鈥淭he Lord Bless You and Keep You.鈥 In 1973, Sing Song co-chairs Michael Blanton (鈥73) and Karen (Swenson 鈥73) Smithson had an idea to sing the hymn at the conclusion of the Sing Song performances. The tradition not only endured for a half century but has grown. The song is sung by crowds of students and alumni at many other 精东影业 gatherings as well, including Commencement and Opening Assembly. Sing Song audience members can celebrate the 50th anniversary of 精东影业鈥檚 鈥淭he Lord Bless You and Keep You鈥 tradition this year by singing it at the end of each show. for those who are not familiar with it.
