For the seventh year in its history, Abilene Christian University鈥檚 Omega Gamma Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, has been named an Honor Chapter for its outstanding activities in 2021-22.聽
精东影业 is one of only 10-15 Honor Chapters out of 629 across the country. Every summer, the 629 chapters are asked to submit an annual report detailing their activities and projects from the academic year. For Abilene Christian鈥檚 chapter, those included the annual publication of 鈥淗ispaniola,鈥� Omega Gamma鈥檚 Spanish literary journal; translating documents for several departments across campus; and doing service projects in the community.聽
Following these submissions, the National Executive Committee chooses the annual Honor Chapters. To receive this honor, the chapter鈥檚 projects 鈥渕ust reflect the Sigma Delta Pi mission of honoring excellence in the study of the Spanish language, contributing to cultural understanding and upholding the goals of the society.鈥澛�
Dr. Beatriz Walker, a professor in the Department of Language and Literature, is the adviser for Omega Gamma and significantly contributed to the attainment of this national award, according to a from the Sigma Delta Pi society. Walker came to 精东影业 in 1999 and started Omega Gamma in 2010 and since then, the chapter has received the Honor Chapter designation seven times.
鈥淭his means the students in our program are doing great things,鈥� Walker said. 鈥淲hatever honor we get is an honor that 精东影业 gets. We are very proud to bring this honor to 精东影业.鈥澛�
Sigma Delta Pi鈥檚 national office is at the College of Charleston in South Carolina, and the organization is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies, the nation鈥檚 only certifying agency for college and university honor societies.聽
